ARE YOU LISTENING???
PSALM 37:7 BE STILL BEFORE THE LORD AND WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM
Charles Stanley, in one of his devotionals, talked about listening to God.
Do you listen to God?
My prayer life is structured around the ACTS formula;
A…ADORATION, C…. CONFESSION, T…THANKSGIVING, S…SUPPLICATION
There are several definitions for supplication:
- To ask humbly and earnestly
- The act of communicating with a deity
I lay my request before God earnestly and humbly and I have no problem communicating with God. However, I have the tendency to continually verbalize my thoughts and desires and fail to pause and reflect on what the Lord wants to say to me. Why is it so hard to just be quiet and listen?
LUKE 4:42 “AT DAYBREAK JESUS WENT OUT TO A SOLITARY PLACE.”
As I drove to various destinations after reading about listening, I put on Spa music. My goal was to quiet my soul and tell my Lord I am here to listen. I tried to calm my mind and focus on God’s Spirit within me.
1 SAMUEL 3:9 ”SPEAK LORD, FOR YOUR SERVANT IS LISTENING.”
Another technique to use during your listening time is to concentrate on a particular scripture. Such as:
PSALM 103:1 PRAISE THE LORD; O MY SOUL, WITH ALL MY INMOST BEING I WILL PRAISE YOUR HOLY NAME
If you haven’t memorized a particular scripture, then write one down on an index card and look at it while meditating and listening to the Lord’s whisper. Another great scripture is the 23 Psalm. Just the first 3 verses are so calming as “He restores my soul.”
Our God wants to talk to us and all we must do is take time to listen.
PSALM 46:10 “BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD.”
